A Bit About Us

Founded in 1973, the La Crosse Area Genealogical Society strives to promote, educate, and further the research of family history, by helping others who are interested in researching the same geographical areas and surnames.

In accomplishing these goals, LAGS provides regular genealogy programs and workshops, supports genealogical research, makes local presentations of genealogical interest, and engages in activities to preserve and promote local genealogy.

LAGS basically encompasses the Driftless Region. The Driftless Area is a region in southwestern Wisconsin, southeastern Minnesota, and northeastern Iowa that escaped the flattening effects of glaciation during the last ice age. The Coulee Region is a term used within the Driftless Area to denote land dissected by water erosion into a series of narrow ridges separated by steep-sided valleys called coulees.

We still have an old website active at sites.rootsweb.com/~wilacgs/, and we are ever slowly transferring its content (such as older minutes and photos) to this website.
